How to deal with a jealous sister

My friend was involved in a wedding last week. Lovely bride, great organisation.
But somehow the wedding preparation in the morning resembled a nightmare.
No support whatsoever. An edgy bride, tearful and nauseous. Pastor’s wife rushing her, limo guy telling her that if she doesn’t hurry he’ll charge more, bridal party paying attention to their makeup, hair and attires...whatever happened to the Bride being the centre of attention on her wedding day?
The maid of honour, her sister, was impossible to find and when she was reached, greeted her sister’s call by a”what” clearly showing this wedding was annoying her. When she finally showed the bride showered her with compliments to which she did not respond.

How on earth is this possible? Children running everywhere, the bride crying over the phone to her groom and because of the lack of people in charge, two hours delay and a heavily rainy weather.
Only comfort she did get was from my friend, the make up artist who ended up hugging her (my friend is really not a hugger), to reassure her, since she looked so helpless.
Bad day.
She had taken care of everything. The only thing she needed on that day, her day, was a bit of support, less selfishness and an attentive bridal party.
Surround yourself properly on your wedding day and make that a landmark for the rest of your marriage life.
Jealous or careless relatives, no matter how close they are, will ruin, your most wonderful moments in life.
Do not involve negative people, regardless of your ties to them and think about your happiness...at least for one day.

Why did I get married?

Watching the sequel of Tyler Perry’s film had me thinking for a long time, made me doubt that eternal love existed and think that married life is scary. I asked myself: why DO people get married?

Is it because it is necessary? Is it because of tradition? Family pressure? To have guiltless sex? Throw a big party and feel like P Diddy? Get a passport? Pay less taxes? Because he/she is rich?

All these reasons might be true, and I’m sure most of you have people around you that have mentioned marriage and these alibis in the same sentence. Some of you might even consider getting married for one or several of these reasons.

The eternal romantic in me believe that there are more reasons why in the 21^st century, people still get married.

‘Marriage is a social union or legal contract between individuals that creates kinship. It is an institution in which interpersonal relationships, usually intimate and sexual, are acknowledged in a variety of ways, depending on the culture or subculture in which it is found. Such a union may also be called matrimony, while the ceremony that marks its beginning is usually called a wedding.

When I thought about marriage as a child, for me it was something that was the norm. My parents were married and to me that was how things should be. My mum would receive flowers for Valentine’s, gifts for her birthdays, be cherished, loved and loving too! I always envisioned myself married not really thinking about the dress but more the gathering I would have and how I’d be the star. It didn’t matter with whom and I never even included the groom in the picture as it was all about me. I guess I dreamed of a wedding rather than a marriage, like most girls do.

Little did I know that marriage is hard work, a constant compromise and regular challenges, that’s why people need to get married for the right reasons.

But it doesn’t always happen that way. You might be pregnant and think it’s a disgrace out of wedlock, you might be scared to live a life of poverty and decided to sacrifice for your family by marrying someone you barely know, or might just be in love and think that the logical next step should be to get hitched.

Personally, I don’t think there are good or bad reasons as once you are married, no matter the reason you got married in the first place, you still have to make it work. Not for one day, a month a year, but ideally as long as you live.

So let's forget about all the bad reasons...

That doesn’t mean it will work, people change, they adapt, evolve and some things might come up and they might be unbearable. But that’s part of life and if your boat is being rocked, I don’t think you have to stick to it, but I think that you should at least try.

I believe that people are still getting married because the first time they saw each other there was a spark. That they understand, love and respect each other so much it feels like they need to scream it out loud on top of the earth, they want to celebrate their love intimately or in the presence of their family. And when people do that, it is called a wedding. So let’s forget about all the bad reasons why some people get married, and let’s focus on why we should be or are getting married.

YIPEE!! It's wedding show season!!

It's wedding show season and you know it's the chance to have a fun day out with the girls (or H2B if he can take it!!)

Make sure you check out these two shows: The National Wedding Show and the Designer Wedding Show.

I must say my favourite is the DWS. It's elegant and the choice of exhibitors is fabulous. Everything you will find there is premium and real luxury!!

It takes place in Battersea Park next week 9-11 October 2009.

NWS is more mainstream but still worth the visit to get tips from the likes of Caryn Franklin best known from the BBC's Clothes Show and see the great selection of wedding dresses for a fraction of the price. It takes place at Earl's Court Exhibition Centre, 2-4 October 2009 (Yes this week-end!!).

The ticket costs £12 in advance and £14 on the day for Friday and £14 advance for Sat/Sun, £16 on the day!

We thought we would keep you in the know!! we found that guy, Sam Day, and he is AWESOME. He does oil painting, live at events. It's classier than wedding photography, original and it means you can hang a souvenir of your wedding in your living room without it being way too cheesy!

Images speak more than words!!!

We think it's a great way of keeping your guests interested and stand out from the crowd! If you are getting married, make sure you get an oil painting.

Your wedding day has arrived and you are walking on clouds. It's the best day of your life, your day... the day where everything is about you.
The weather is perfect, the schedule is smooth, you feel gorgeous and you are marrying the man of your dream... then... bang!

Avoid a boring wedding: Have a wedding theme.

Crunch in the mouth: go French with your wedding cake

The 'Croque-en Bouche ' is a classic French style wedding cake. It's a great alternative to the traditional iced-white-wedding-cake and will ravish your guests' taste buds.

It's made of profiteroles (choux pastries) filled with creme patissiere (French custard). They are dipped in caramelised sugar which when set gives the cake's name justice: crunch in the mouth.

It's traditionally decorated with nougatine curls and sugar almonds with an optional spun sugar veil, but cake maker often offer a variety of options like chocolate fillings, vanilla flavouring our Baileys finishing.

You can serve the choux with fresh fruits for a summer feel or caramel and chocolate sauce in winter.

It's a winner and we can't get enough of it!!

This week, we decided to showcase valuable and sometimes undervalued gemstones: bridal charity shops. If you like everything antique, vintage and less costly, they are the best option for you. The staff is genuinely nice and the bargains are awesome! In the current financial climate, a small look at their racks can’t do any harm. And you get to support a good cause too!!

Preston Wedding Shop - Lancashire

This gemstone of a shop is one of the 11^th charity shops fundraising on behalf of St Catherine’s Hospice. They specialise in bridal wear. The

second floor showcases an outstanding selection of wedding dresses. The choice is worthy to be compared to regular wedding department with a excellent selection and large variety of :

wedding dresses
bridesmaid dresses
‘mother of the bride’ outfits.

The men are not left out as the groom and best man will also find an excellent selection of attire. If you are not too keen on the usual wedding dress, the ground floor will satisfy all your needs as there are:

mores dresses
an assortment of tasteful evening wear
occasion wear
wedding accessories
head wear
Princess tiaras and jewellery.

You will find everything you need for your wedding in that treasure crate from undergarments to nicely crafted accessories and neatly tidied shoes, scattered in the entire shop,

Quality is not lacking, stock is renewed every year and they benefit from the generosity of other businesses who donate new dresses, sample gowns as well as regular brides’ second hand wedding dresses. Many of them still have the price tag on to testify, how good the bargain is. 90% of the stock is new, donated and originally costs on average £1000. At St Catherine Hospice, bridal shop, the prices start from £30 and on average range from £100-£150. The most expensive dress ever sold was a fabulous piece they sold £350.

The shop is worth a visit and they also offer a hire service on selected items.
